Paul Backo

Paul Backo is junior from Cuyahoga Falls. Ohio majoring in public management, leadership, and policy. Prior to WAIP, Mr. Backo interned with Cleveland Neighborhood Progress and the Village of Richfield Parks and Recreation. On campus, Mr. Backo serves as Treasurer of Crosswalk Outreach for the Homeless and tutors for Pass the Class. Mr. Backo will intern with the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

 

Changyu Cao

Changyu Cao is a senior from Wuhan City, China majoring in economics and finance. Mr. Cao has experience interning in the private sector at Barnum Financial Group, China Merchants Bank, B/S/H Home Appliances, and FWD Life Insurance Company Limited. On campus, Mr. Cao is a Teaching Assistant for Ohio State’s Computer Science and Engineering Department. Mr. Cao will intern with Live Oak Banking Company.

Laura Dacy

Laura Dacy is a junior from Rolling Meadows, Illinois majoring in public management, leadership, and policy and strategic communication. Prior to WAIP, Ms. Dacy interned for a 2020 presidential candidate and CNN’s Special Events unit. She also has experience working for Arlington Heights Park District as a facility manager and lifeguard. On campus, Ms. Dacy is a member of the Ohio Union Activities Board and Politics, Society, and Law Scholars. Ms. Dacy will intern in the United States Senate.

Jimmy Gao

Jimmy Gao is a junior from New Philadelphia, Ohio majoring in public policy analysis and economics with a minor in political science. Previously, Mr. Gao interned with the Ohio Senate, the Ohio Governor’s Office, and the Ohio House of Representatives. On campus, Mr. Gao is involved in the Mount Leadership Society Scholars program, Undergraduate Student Government, and Buckeye Boys State. Mr. Gao will intern with the U.S. House of Representatives.

Emma Gardner

Emma Gardner is a junior from Bexley, Ohio majoring in public management, leadership, and policy and Spanish. Prior to WAIP, Ms. Gardner interned with the Community Refugee and Immigration Services in Columbus, the U.S. Senate, and Defend Our Future. On campus, Ms. Gardner is involved in Advocates for Women of the World and Politics, Society, and Law Scholars. Ms. Gardner will intern with the U.S. House of Representatives.

Joseph Glandorf

Joseph Glandorf is senior from Cincinnati, Ohio majoring in philosophy and political science with minors in economics and English literature. Mr. Glandorf has experience interning with Ohio State’s Corporate Relations office, the Ohio House of Representatives, Ohio State University libraries, and Aftab for Ohio. On campus, Mr. Glandorf is involved with the Lord Denney’s Players housed in Ohio State’s Department of English. Mr. Glandorf will intern with the Leveraging Transparency to Reduce Corruption team at the Brookings Institution.

Alex Gonia

Alex Gonia is a junior from Mentor, Ohio majoring in public management, leadership, and policy with a minor in French. Prior to WAIP, Mr. Gonia interned with the Parliament of Canada, the Ohio House of Representatives, and Chardon Tomorrow. On campus, Mr. Gonia is involved in Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity, the John Glenn College Civic Leadership Council, and the John Glenn College Civic Leadership Community. Mr. Gonia will intern at Battelle.

Matthew Gorman

Matthew Gorman is a senior from Freehold, New Jersey majoring in business administration with a specialization in economics and a minor in public policy. Previously, Mr. Gorman interned with Scholastic, Inc. in New York City and has experience at the Ohio State Call Center as a fundraiser. On campus, Mr. Gorman is involved with Students Consulting for Non-Profit Organizations, RallyCaps, and Mount Leadership Scholars. Mr. Gorman will intern with the U.S. House of Representatives.

 

 

Emma Guirlinger

Emma Guirlinger is junior from New Albany, Ohio majoring in public management, leadership, and policy with a minor in political science. Ms. Guirlinger has experience as a server and room service attendant at The Blackwell Inn. On campus, Ms. Guirlinger is involved with Amnesty International USA and participated in a Buck-I-SERV trip to Minneapolis. Ms. Guirlinger will intern with the Better World Campaign.

Esther Heilman

Esther Heilman is a junior from Wauseon, Ohio majoring in political science and international studies with a minor in Russian. Prior to WAIP, Ms. Heilman has interned with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, New Visions Group, HDMK, and the City of Toledo Youth Commission. Ms. Heilman will intern at the Office of Personnel Management’s Office of the Inspector General.

Meg Hopkins

Meg Hopkins is a junior from Rocky River, Ohio majoring in public management, leadership, and policy and economics. Prior to WAIP, Ms. Hopkins interned with the City of Broadview Heights, the U.S. Senate, Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, and Morino Ventures, LLC. On campus, Ms. Hopkins is involved with Pi Sigma Epsilon professional business fraternity and serves as a Social Change Ambassador in the Department of Social Change. Ms. Hopkins will intern with the Kyle House Group.

Hanna Hutchins

Hanna Hutchins is a senior from Lewis Center, Ohio majoring in public management, leadership, and policy and political science with specializations in nonprofit management and American politics. Previously, Ms. Hutchins interned with the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio as a development intern. On campus, Ms. Hutchins is a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band. Ms. Hutchins will intern with EMILY’s List in the Federal and Gubernatorial Campaigns department.

Sondos Issa

Sondos Issa is a junior from Dayton, Ohio majoring in psychology and philosophy. Ms. Issa is a board member, co-director, and pantry volunteer for My Project USA. At Ohio State, Ms. Issa is a course assistant, telecounselor, and diversity ambassador. On campus, Ms. Issa is involved with the Casual International Domestic Debate Club and the Muslim Student Association. Ms. Issa will intern at the Council for Court Excellence.

Vincent Pancini

Vincent Pancini is a senior from Newark, Ohio majoring in public policy analysis with a specialization in social policy. Mr. Pancini has both research and legislative experience. Previously, Mr. Pancini served as a research assistant for the Ohio Colleges of Medicine and the Communications and Cognitive Systems Lab. Mr. Pancini also interned with the Ohio Senate, Columbus City Council, and the Canadian Parliament. Mr. Pancini will intern at the Brookings Institution with the Hamilton Project.

Sam Richards

Sam Richards is a senior from Union, Kentucky majoring in city and regional planning with a minor in public policy. Prior to WAIP, Mr. Richards interned with the City of Delaware, Ohio and the Hilltop, Columbus, OH Community Development Research. Mr. Richards also won the 2019 APA National Undergraduate Research Award for his work with Autism Living and Columbus government agencies, which explored ways to create a society where adults on the Autism spectrum can thrive. Mr. Richards will intern at the National Multifamily Planning Council.  

Julia Romie

Julie Romie is a junior from Centerville, Ohio majoring in sociology and public management, leadership, and policy with minors in French and music. Ms. Romie is a member of the Collegiate Council on World Affairs at Ohio State as well as Tzu Ching. Ms. Romie also volunteered with Students for Refugees and a 2016 presidential campaign. Ms. Romie will intern with the U.S. Senate.

Jordan Schmidt

Jordan Schmidt is a junior from Wooster, Ohio majoring in political science and history. Prior to WAIP, Mr. Schmidt had experience with the Boys and Girls Club of Wooster and Friends of Sherrod Brown. On campus, Mr. Schmidt is involved with Undergraduate Student Government and the John Glenn Civic Leadership Community. Mr. Schmidt will intern at the Federal Judicial Center.

Abigail Smeltzer

Abigail Smeltzer is a senior from Carroll, Ohio majoring in public policy analysis with a minor in Middle East studies. Prior to WAIP, Ms. Smeltzer interned with the Human Rights Watch, Ohio House of Representatives, Columbus Council on World Affairs, Ohio Victim Witness Association, Columbus Metropolitan Library, and a state senate race. Ms. Smeltzer will intern with Global Fairness Initiative.

Alexander St. Leger

Alexander St. Leger is a junior from Port Clinton, Ohio majoring in international studies and Spanish. Prior to WAIP, Mr. St. Leger interned with the Community Refugee and Immigration Services and the Ohio House of Representatives. On campus, Mr. St. Leger is involved in College Republicans, the Journal of Political and International Affairs, the American Enterprise Institute at Ohio State, and the Russian Student Association. Mr. St. Leger will intern at the Heritage Foundation.

Bill Vidmar

William Vidmar is a junior from Cleveland, Ohio majoring in public policy analysis with a specialization in urban policy and management and minors in economics and sexuality studies. Prior to WAIP, Mr. Vidmar worked at Policy Matters Ohio. On campus, Mr. Vidmar is a student pen pal, peer mentor, and social committee leader. Mr. Vidmar will intern with the Office of Privacy, Transparency, and Records in the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Sam Weiss

Sam Weiss is a senior from Granada Hills, California majoring in international studies with a specialization in development studies and minors in Arabic and philosophy. Mr. Weiss interned with Save the Children domestically and internationally, and with the International Organization for Migration in Greece. On campus, Mr. Weiss is a Buckeye Leadership Fellow and a Resident Advisor. Mr. Weiss will intern with the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution.
