Dylan Armstrong

Dylan Armstrong is a junior from Mentor, Ohio majoring in Political Science with minors in Criminology and Public Policy. Mr. Armstrong serves as a University Host at Ohio State, welcoming prospective students and their families to the University during their tour and answering questions. He also works as an office assistant in his residence hall, supporting 1600+ residents. He also comes to Washington with political experience, having worked on a campaign for a state representative. Mr. Armstrong will intern in the Office of Congressman Tim Ryan.

Matthew Bango

Matthew Bango is a junior from Lakewood, Ohio majoring in Public Policy Analysis with a minor in Economics. At Ohio State, Mr. Bango is involved with the Ohio Union Activities Board, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and Buckeyethon. Last summer, Mr. Bango worked as a program volunteer with One Heartland in Willow River, Minnesota, working with youth and families affected by HIV/AIDs. He also interned in the Columbus office of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. Mr. Bango will intern in the Office of Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.

Kate Clark

Kate Clark is a junior from new Albany, Ohio majoring in Chinese and International Studies, specializing in international relations and diplomacy. At Ohio State, Ms. Clark is involved with Alpha Gamma Delta International Fraternity, Advocates for Communities and Education Scholars Program, the Buckeye Civic Engagement Connection and College Mentors for Kids. During summer 2017, Ms. Clark traveled to New York City to attend the Human Rights Watch Film Festival through the Human Rights in Transit Summer Program. She works as an English as a Second Language Instructor and Intern at The Long Lasting Community Development Association in Columbus Ohio, and works as a student assistant in Ohio State’s BuckID Office. Ms. Clark will intern at Battelle in their office of federal relations.

Edith Fuentes

Edith Fuentes is a junior from Columbus, Ohio majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice. At Ohio State, Ms. Fuentes works as a student administrative assistant for the DISCO Department, supporting the Diversity and Identity Studies Collective Program. Prior to this role, Ms. Fuentes worked for Ohio State’s College of Nursing, supporting current students and parents to troubleshoot various concerns and needs. Ms. Fuentes served as a student ambassador to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, focusing on issues faced by Ohio’s youth population. Ms. Fuentes will intern with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of International Affairs.

Tyler Giacalone

Tyler Giacalone is a junior from Naperville, Illinois majoring in Public Management, Leadership and Policy, as well as Sociology. He is specializing his degree in Civic Engagement and Community Organization. Mr. Giacalone got his start in politics as a high school student, when he volunteered on President Obama’s campaign for reelection. He’s also interned for the Ohio Democratic Party and for a city council campaign in Upper Arlington, Ohio. During the summer of 2016 he returned to the Chicago area and interned for Argonne National Laboratory, working as a research aide. At Ohio State, he is involved with College Democrats. Mr. Giacalone will intern in the Office of U.S. Senator Durbin from Illinois.

Kaitlyn Holmecki

Kaitlyn Holmecki is a junior from Bargerville, Indiana majoring in Public Policy Analysis and World Politics. At Ohio State, Ms. Holmecki is involved in the Sustained Dialogue Club, Delta Zeta Sorority Theta Chapter and the Environment and Natural Resources Scholars Program. She participated in the Ohio State United Kingdom study abroad program during spring 2016. She’s interned for the Ohio House Democratic Caucus as a campaign intern, and lived in Ottawa and interned in Canadian Parliament during summer 2017. Ms. Holmecki will intern at the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, Trade Agreements Secretariat.

Lauren Jesch

Lauren Jesch is a junior from Dayton, Ohio majoring in Political Science with a minor in Nonprofit studies. Ms. Jesch has extensive study abroad experience, having studied in Rwanda, Nicaragua and India. Ms. Jesch led two service trips to the City of Refuge Women’s shelter in Atlanta. She interned at the International Rescue Committee in Baltimore, Maryland during summer 2016, working with refugees to meet employment needs. In Columbus, Ms. Jesch interns at US Together Inc as a social services intern, working on a job readiness program for refugees. Ms. Jesch will intern at The Fund for Peace.

Ryan Kurz

Ryan Kurz is a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio majoring in International Studies with a minor in Russian. At Ohio State, Mr. Kurz is involved as a staff writer for Alger Magazine, a student-run magazine for political, economic and social discussion at the University. He is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and a member of the Collegiate Council on World Affairs. Mr. Kurz will intern in the Office of U.S. Senator Rob Portman.

Mikayla Lee

Mikayla Lee is a sophomore from Hendersonville, Tennessee majoring in Public Management, Leadership and Policy, as well as World Business and Economy. She is minoring in Business. Ms. Lee served as a Democratic Caucus intern in the Ohio State Senate, and interned for the Columbus Refugee and Immigrant Services, mentoring refugee and immigrant middle school students. She also worked on the Hillary Clinton campaign in Ohio during 2016. At Ohio State, Ms. Lee is involved in Undergraduate Student Government, African American Voices and the Black Student Association. Ms. Lee will intern with the House Democratic Caucus.

Susanna Malacky

Susanna Malacky is a junior from Warren, Ohio majoring in Public Management, Leadership and Policy, with a specialization in education policy. Ms. Malacky interned for the Ohio House of Representatives and worked as an events assistant at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. At Ohio State, she is a member of TBDBITL, Students for Education Reform and the Hall Council in her residence hall. Ms. Malacky will intern at the American Youth Policy Forum.

Fallon O’Brien

Fallon O’Brien is a junior from Columbus, Ohio majoring in International Studies and minoring in Spanish and Religious Studies. At Ohio State, Ms. O’Brien is a member of the International Affairs Scholars Program and Dance Connection. In May 2016, she studied abroad in Mexico. In Columbus, she interned with the Association of College and University Housing Officers, and worked as a research assistant for the American Religious Sounds Project. Ms. O’Brien will intern at the National Archives.

Evan Pfeifer

Evan Pfeifer is a junior from Columbus, Ohio majoring in Business Administration, specializing in Finance, with a minor in History. Mr. Pfeifer works for Ohio State as an undergraduate admissions and student account specialist, supporting prospective and current students through their admissions and financial aid process. In 2016 Mr. Pfeifer volunteered with Ohio Together, canvassing and phone banking, while assisting citizens with voter registration. He is also involved with the Marion Campus Theatre, acting in lead roles in musicals and plays. Mr. Pfeifer will intern in the Office of Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47). The Congressman is an alumnus of Ohio State University.

David Rose

David Rose is a junior from Westland, Michigan majoring in Environmental Policy, with a specialization in policy and governance. At Ohio State, Mr. Rose is a resident advisor, supervising a residence hall floor of 60+ undergraduate residents. He serves as the vice president of the Running Club at Ohio State, and is the standards board chairman for Pi Kappa Phi. Mr. Rose will intern in the Office of U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow from his home state of Michigan.

Ishrat Sanjida

Ishrat Sanjida is a senior from Columbus, Ohio majoring in International Studies. Ms. Sanjida spent fall semester 2017 interning for the U.S. State Department in the U.S. Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago. Prior to her semester abroad, she worked as a student outreach assistant in the Office of International Affairs at Ohio State. She also interned with the Columbus International Program, assisting in the development of two training programs on United States rule of law and business development for delegations from Rwanda, Nepal, Russia and the DRC. Ms. Sanjida will intern at the Partnership for Public Service.

Abeeha Shamshad

Abeeha Shamshad is a sophomore from San Ramon, California majoring in Public Management, Leadership and Policy, with a minor in Human Rights. In Columbus, Ms. Shamshad has interned with the Ohio Democratic Party, for a Columbus City Councilmember’s campaign and for Equality Ohio. At Ohio State, she serves as an office assistant for her residence hall complex, is the cultural chair of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority and is the diversity and inclusion chair for Pride OSU. Ms. Shamshad will intern with the Democratic Governors Association.

Kyndal Sowers

Kyndal Sowers is a junior from Georgetown, Ohio majoring in Political Science with a focus on American Politics. At Ohio State, Ms. Sowers is an active member of the Politics, Society and Law Scholars Program, serving as a mentor to first year students. Ms. Sowers serves as a sexual civility and empowerment ambassador for the Office of Student Life, facilitating ‘Buck-I-CARE about Consent’ workshops for first year students and educating students about consent and preventing sexual violence on campus. She is a member of the Ohio State chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Delta Zeta. She interned for the Franklin County Democratic Party and for the Ted Strickland for Senate Campaign. Ms. Sowers will intern at Nucor Public Affairs.

Averi Townsend

Averi Townsend is a junior from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania majoring in Public Management, Leadership and Policy, with a minor in Economics. At Ohio State, Ms. Townsend serves as deputy chief financial officer for Undergraduate Student Government, requiring her to manage a $200,000 budget for the organization. She also serves as the vice chair of the allocations committee on the Council for Student Affairs. She interned on a campaign for Columbus City Attorney, representing the candidate at events and assisting with social media. Ms. Townsend will intern in the Office of U.S. Senator Tom Carper of Delaware. The Senator is an alumnus of Ohio State University.

Frederick Young

Frederick Young is a junior from Powell, Ohio majoring in Public Policy Analysis. Mr. Young’s political experience includes interning with the City of Columbus in the Code Enforcement Office, phone banking for the One Columbus Campaign, serving as a fellow with Next-Gen Climate and volunteering on a Columbus City Council campaign. Mr. Young has also participated in Buck-I-SERV, traveling to Atlanta during summer 2017 to work with an organization that serves homeless women and children. Mr. Young will intern in the Office of Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-2).
