Zachary Ames

Zachary Ames is a senior from Ashland, Ohio majoring in Environmental Policy and Decision making, with a minor in biology. At Ohio State, Mr. Ames is involved with SUSTAINS, a learning community tasked with identifying sustainable solutions to improving the campus community. He is also the president of the Student Coalition of the Sierra Club. He worked as a research assistant for a professor in Ohio State’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources, working on coding analysis for the EPA Clean Power Plan. He also worked for Columbus City Metro Parks as a camp counselor and environmental educator. Mr. Ames will intern at Battelle, Office of Federal Relations.

Maggie Brim

Maggie Brim is a senior from Pickerington, Ohio majoring in Public Health and English. Her studies in public health took her to Manipal University in India during summer 2016, where she studied community health outreach and environmental risk assessment. At Ohio State, Ms. Brim is the president of She’s the First, an NGO focused on girls’ education. She is also a member of Gamma Phi Beta. Professionally, Ms. Brim has experience as a research assistant in the Ohio State Department of Sociology and serving as an events assistant for the OSU College of Engineering. Ms. Brim will intern at Peace Corps Headquarters.

Robert Caldwell

Robert Caldwell is a senior from Highland Mills, New York majoring in Public Affairs, with minors in Economics and International Development. His major studies are concentrated on nonprofit management. At Ohio State, Mr. Caldwell is a member of the Varsity Fencing Team and the National Kidney Foundation Junior Board. He also serves as the vice president for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Ohio State Chapter. He’s taken his Ohio State involvement off-campus, backpacking in the California High Sierra through leadership expedition, and by studying Australia’s ecosystems on a study abroad program in May 2015. Mr. Caldwell will intern at the International Economic Development Council.

Teresa Cardenas

Teresa Cardenas is a senior from Xenia, Ohio majoring in Journalism and International Studies, with minors in Spanish and History. At Ohio State, Ms. Cardenas serves as a University Ambassador, providing tours to prospective student and families. She also works as an administrative assistant in the dining facilities on-campus. Ms. Cardenas has engaged in community service in Nicaragua, and studied abroad in London during summer 2016. Ms. Cardenas will intern with Voice of America.

Christine Cockley

Christine Cockley is a senior from Mansfield, Ohio majoring in Public Affairs, with a minor in Political Science. At Ohio State she serves as the director of recruitment for the Collegiate Council on World Affairs and is the professional development and scholarship chair for Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity. Professionally, Ms. Cockley has experience working in the Student Legal Services at Ohio State as an assistant, assisting a judge through the Richland County Board of Elections and interning in the Columbus office of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. Ms. Cockley will intern with Women in Government.

Drew Cooper

Drew Cooper is a senior from Powell, Ohio majoring in Public Affairs. Heavily involved in Ohio politics, Mr. Cooper has interned in the office of State Representative Jim Buchy, served as a page in the Ohio House of Representatives, served as a campaign volunteer with the Ohio House Republican Organizational Caucus and works as a senior constituent aide in the Office of Ohio House Speaker Clifford Rosenberger. At Ohio State, Mr. Cooper is a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, serves as the elected President of the Ohio State Interfraternity Council and assists the John Glenn College in recruitment of future students. Mr. Cooper will intern in the Office of Congressman Tiberi. (OH-12).

Cassidy Dawczak

Cassidy Dawczak is a junior from Orland Park, Illinois majoring in International Studies with a focus in security and intelligence. She is minoring in Arabic. At Ohio State, Ms. Dawczak is active with the Politics, Society and Law Scholars program, through which she has traveled to Washington to meet with alumni and visit federal agencies. Interested in security and intelligence, Ms. Dawczak completed a security analysis of the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering building on-campus. She also worked as a student safety officer for Ohio State’s Department of Public Safety. Ms. Dawczak will intern at Battelle, Office of Federal Relations.

Morgan DeWitt

Morgan DeWitt is a junior from Marysville, Ohio majoring in Strategic Communication and English. Ms. DeWitt attends Ohio State’s Marion campus, and her involvements there include founding Marion’s Sustainability and Environment Club, serving as vice president of Marion’s College Republicans Club and founding the student publication on Marion’s campus. She works as an academic advising assistant at Ohio State Marion, and is a staff member at McKinley Elementary, providing support to a program that works to improve literacy, math and social growth for students. During the 2016 election, she became a credentialed member of the media and covered the election for The Odyssey Online and was interviewed for NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. Ms. DeWitt will intern in the Office of Congressman Jordan (OH-4).

Zachary Garcia

Zachary Garcia is a senior from Medina, Ohio majoring in Marketing. At Ohio State, Mr. Garcia is a mentor through Fisher International Friends, a student organization that partners business students with international students. Professionally, Mr. Garcia is the vice president of Impact Marketing and Design, which provides consulting services for marketing, logistics and strategy to other student organizations at Ohio State. Mr. Garcia is a member of the United States Air Force. Mr. Garcia will intern at Alion Science & Technology.

Audrey Gerlach

Audrey Gerlach is a senior from Bay Village, Ohio majoring in Public Affairs, with minors in International Relations and Dance. At Ohio State, Ms. Gerlach serves as an English tutor with Students for Refugees, tutoring middle school aged refugees weekly. She also serves as an outreach coordinator for Dance Connection, working with local schools and hospitals to bring dance into communities lacking arts programs. She also studied abroad at Leiden University in the Netherlands during spring semester 2016. Professionally, Ms. Gerlach has served as a senate page in the Office of Ohio State Senator Troy Balderson, and worked as a community outreach intern for Ohio City, Incorporated. Ms. Gerlach will intern with the National Museum for Women in the Arts.

Sharon Glenn

Sharon Glenn is a senior from Walled Lake, Michigan majoring in Public Affairs and International Studies, with a minor in Spanish. At Ohio State, Ms. Glenn is the membership chair and house management vice president for her sorority, Delta Zeta. She is also a member of Advocates for Children, a scholars program at Ohio State focused on service and community engagement opportunities focused on education. She serves as a teacher aid at the Schoembaum Family Learning Center at Ohio State, and has served as a moderator for the Model United Nations Conference in her hometown. Ms. Glenn will intern with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Luke Graeter

Luke Graeter is a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio majoring in Public Affairs and Political Science, with minors in Business and History. In Columbus, Mr. Graeter has experience with the state legislature, having served as an intern in the Office of State Representative Jim Buchy. He lived in Ottawa, Canada during summer 2016, interning in the Canadian Parliament. He’s also interned at the Buckeye Institute, assisting with economic modeling projects to drive economic policy recommendations for state lawmakers. At Ohio State, Mr. Graeter is involved with the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council, serving as the policy chair. Mr. Graeter will intern with the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America.

Natalie Hagy

Natalie Hagy is a senior from Columbus, Ohio majoring in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Public Policy Analysis, with a specialization in nonprofit management. At Ohio State, Ms. Hagy is the vice president of the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council and a resident advisor. She led a Buck-I-SERV trip in March 2016, where she coordinated a student group and led them on a volunteer project in New Orleans. Professionally, Ms. Hagy works as an administrative assistant at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and works at Ohio Health as a medication safety intern, compiling data on best practices for pharmacies. Ms. Hagy will intern at the Government Accountability Office, Health Policy Team.

Brandon Hofacker

Brandon Hofacker is a senior from Fairlawn, Ohio majoring in Public Affairs, with minors in Peace Studies and Near-Eastern Language and Culture. At Ohio State, Mr. Hofacker is a resident advisor and a member of the International Affairs Scholars Leadership Council. He’s also served on the Board of Activities for his residence hall, and is the director of operations for the National Residence Hall Honorary. He also serves as a mentor through Mentor a Buckeye, which matches Ohio State students with high school students. Mr. Hofacker has studied abroad twice in India and Toronto. Mr. Hofacker will intern in the Ohio State University Office of Federal Relations.

Ian Jones

Ian Jones is a senior from Canal Winchester, Ohio majoring in Political Science and English. Mr. Jones served as a policy intern in the Ohio Senate Minority Caucus, and then served as an office page in the caucus. At Ohio State, Mr. Jones serves as a student lead for event services at the Fawcett Center, managing setup staff and operations for major events. Prior to transferring to Ohio State, Mr. Jones played NCAA Division One football for the University of Dayton. Mr. Jones will intern in the Office of Congressman Ryan (OH-13) for the first session, and then for Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown for the second session.

Evelyn Kennedy

Evelyn Kennedy is a senior from Westlake, Ohio majoring in Political Science and Public Affairs, with a minor in International Diplomacy. At Ohio State, Ms. Kennedy is involved as a John Glenn College of Public Affairs Student Ambassador, is the President of Delta Delta Delta Nu, is the director of government relations for the Undergraduate Student Government and is the social media committee chair for OSU Votes. Ms. Kennedy has previously interned as a Senate Page in the Office of Ohio State Senator Troy Balderson, as a campaign finance intern for Portman for Senate and as a bankruptcy law intern at a law firm in Columbus. Ms. Kennedy will intern with Marathon Petroleum, office of government relations.

Elizabeth Kleinhenz

Elizabeth Kleinhenz is a senior from Wooster, Ohio majoring in Sociology with minors in Economics and Public Policy. At Ohio State, Ms. Kleinhenz works as a student research assistant, supporting a PhD candidate with a longitudinal project regarding internship experiences and the labor market. She has also worked as a field interviewer for the Ohio State Center for Human Resource Research, conducting over 70 interviews with Franklin County adolescents and their adult caregivers. Ms. Kleinhenz also works as a tutor with the Ohio State Student Athlete Support Services Office. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Ms. Kleinhenz will intern with the National Partnership for Women and Families.

Katie Leskowitz

Katie Leskowitz is a junior from Westerville, Ohio majoring in History, with minors in Political Science and Nonprofit Studies. At Ohio State, Ms. Leskowitz is the treasurer of I Am That Girl, a group that works to empower women on campus through various social and service events. She is also a team captain for BuckeyeThon, a 24-hour dance marathon that raises money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. At Ohio State, she works as a research assistant for a professor in the History Department. Ms. Leskowitz will intern with the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

Lauren McDermott

Lauren McDermott is a junior from Lyndhurst, Ohio majoring in Political Science with a minor in French. On campus, Ms. McDermott is a member of College Democrats and writes for Alger Magazine, a student publication dedicated to discussion of social, political and economic issues. She volunteered during the 2016 election, supporting national and local Democratic candidates. Ms. McDermott has interned with a law firm in Cleveland and with the Ohio Democratic Party. Ms. McDermott will intern in the Office of Congresswoman Kaptur (OH-9).

Ella Oppong

Ella Oppong is a senior from Columbus, Ohio majoring in Political Science, with a minor in International Relations. Ms. Oppong’s community involvements include serving as a food drive volunteer through In His Presence Ministries, delivering meals to over 200 families in her community. She also serves as a surgical discharge unite volunteer at St. Ann’s Hospital. At Ohio State, she works as a student fundraiser. She’s also a member of The Akumanyi Foundation at Ohio State, as well as the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Ms. Oppong will intern with JHPEIGO on USAID’s child and maternal health program.

Eleni Packis

Eleni Packis is a senior majoring from Westlake, Ohio majoring in Public Policy Analysis and Economics. At Ohio State, Ms. Packis is the chapter leader of Students for Education Reform, a member of the Columbus City Schools Innovation and Reform Committee and is a citizenship class teacher with US Together, which assists non-US citizens prepare for their citizenship test. Ms. Packis has interned for KIPP Columbus and for the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus. She also assists a professor at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs on research analyzing teacher effectiveness in the state of Ohio. Ms. Packis will intern at the Government Accountability Office, Health Policy Team.

Iesha Pearson

Iesha Pearson is a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio majoring in Political Science, with a minor in Criminal Justice and Criminology. At Ohio State, Ms. Pearson is a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International, as well as the Undergraduate Black Law Student Association. Ms. Pearson works as a telecounselor in the Ohio State Admissions Office, counseling prospective students and families through their admissions process while marketing the benefits of an Ohio State education. Ms. Pearson will intern at the Council for Court Excellence.

Phoebe Potiker

Phoebe Potiker is a junior from Shaker Heights, Ohio majoring in History and Public Affairs, with a minor in African American and African Studies. At Ohio State, Ms. Potiker is a member of the Ohio Union Activities Board, OSU Votes, Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity and writes for The Lantern. Professionally, she works as an events department student assistant at the Glenn College, and has worked as a research assistant. She also interned with Cleveland Scene Magazine, writing for their blog. Ms. Potiker will intern with the National Archives.

Clare Rigney

Clare Rigney is a senior from Milford, Ohio majoring in Molecular Genetics, with minors in Global Public Health and Biomedical Engineering. At Ohio State, Ms. Rigney is involved with the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council and volunteers at the James Cancer Hospital as a greeter in the emergency department. She also works as a teaching associate for the College of Engineering, and is a research assistant for a doctor in the Department of Epidemiology, assisting with a project focused on maternal and child health clinics in the Democratic Republic of Congo. During spring 2015, Ms. Rigney studied abroad in London. Ms. Rigney will intern at Peace Corps, Global Health Service Partnership.

Christina Rodas

Christina Rodas is a senior from Dublin, Ohio majoring in International Studies, with a focus on development studies. She has minors in Spanish and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. At Ohio State, Ms. Rodas is involved with Alpha Phi Omega and the Emerging Leaders Institute. Her previous professional experiences include an internship with the American Red Cross, an assistant position at the Ohio State Office of Responsible Research Practices and a team lead position at a local apparel shop. Ms. Rodas will intern with JHPEIGO on USAID’s child and maternal health program.

Emily Saleme

Emily Saleme is a senior from Gahanna, Ohio majoring in Criminology and Public Policy Analysis. At Ohio State, Ms. Saleme is the director of events for BuckeyeThon, a 24-hour dance marathon that raises money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She is also the president of the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council and is a member of Alpha Phi Omega. She interned for AARP Ohio, serving as the advocacy intern. Ms. Saleme will intern with AARP in Washington, DC as the campaigns management intern.

Daniel Sonnefeld

Daniel Sonnefeld is a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio majoring in International Studies, with minors in Military History and Arabic. Mr. Sonnefeld is a member of the Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class Program in preparation for Marine Corps OCS and to earn a commission as a Marine Corps Officer. At Ohio State, he is a member of the International Affairs Scholars Program and is a research assistant for the Sociology Department, assisting with a project focused on terrorism and media. Mr. Sonnefeld has interned in the District Office of Congressman Wenstrup, and for Senator Portman’s reelection campaign. Mr. Sonnefeld will intern in the Office of Congressman Wenstrup (OH-2).

Sarah Souders

Sarah Souders is a senior from Canton, Michigan majoring in Public Policy Analysis and Political Science, with a minor in Economics. At Ohio State, Ms. Souders is involved with Undergraduate Student Government. She has leadership roles within the University, serving as the student representative for the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, and serves as the Fiscal Committee Student Representative on University Senate. She has interned at the Thomas B. Fordham Institute and Ohio Department of Education. She served as a research assistant for the Education Governance and Accountability Project, analyzing election outcomes and academic achievement by district. In 2016, Ms. Souders participated in the American Enterprise Institute summer honors program in Washington, DC. Ms. Souders will intern with the National Center for Education Statistics.

Nikki Tecco

Nikki Tecco is a junior from Medina, Ohio majoring in International Relations and Chinese, with a minor in Public Policy. At Ohio State, Ms. Tecco is the philanthropy coordinator for Alpha Gamma Delta and serves as an ambassador for the Honors and Scholars program, requiring her to help run events for prospective and incoming students. She is also a volunteer with the English Conversation Partner Program. Ms. Tecco worked as a Senior Legislative Page at the Ohio House of Representatives. Ms. Tecco will intern in the Office of Ohio Senator Rob Portman.

Benjamin Weidner

Benjamin Weidner is a junior from Dayton, Ohio majoring in Political Science and Business, with minors in German and Public Policy. At Ohio State, Mr. Weidner is a resident advisor, member of the International Affairs Scholars Leadership Council and participant of BuckeyeThon, a 24-hour dance marathon that raises money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. During summer 2016, Mr. Weidner lived in Ottawa, Canada and interned in the Canadian Parliament. Mr. Weidner will intern at the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration.

Sara Wendel

Sara Wendel is a senior from Hilliard, Ohio majoring in Public Affairs, with minors in Economics and History. At Ohio State, Ms. Wendel is the president of Advocates for Women of the World and a member of the sexual violence task force through Undergraduate Student Government, requiring her to promote the It’s On Us campaign on campus. Ms. Wendel serves as a University Ambassador, providing tours to prospective student and families. Professionally, Ms. Wendel has experience interning with the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Franklin County and interning with Gongwer News Service, which covers state legislative news. Ms. Wendel will intern at the Federal Judicial Center.
