Seo-Young Byun is an Assistant Professor of Public Management in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. Her research examines how organizations can better reflect public values such as justice and inclusion by understanding and responding to the diverse needs of their workforce. Taking an interdisciplinary and multi-level approach, she investigates how individual identities, leadership practices, status dynamics and broader societal forces intersect to shape organizational experiences and outcomes. Her recent work focuses on topics such as inclusive leadership, the work-life interface and the role of organizational culture during times of social change. Dr. Byun’s research has been published in leading journals including Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, Human Resource Management and Gender, Work & Organization.
Byun has taught a range of courses in leadership, organizational behavior and human resource management at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She is particularly interested in teaching topics related to public management that benefit from interdisciplinary perspectives. Her teaching emphasizes research-informed practice, inclusive learning and critical engagement with real-world challenges in organizations.
Byun earned her Ph.D. in Management and Human Resources from the Wisconsin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and holds a B.A. in Business Administration and Psychology from Korea University. Before joining the Glenn College, she served as an Assistant Professor of Management at Ball State University’s Miller College of Business.
