Adam Copeland

Lecturer

Adam Copeland is a lecturer in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. He brings nearly two decades of experience leading strategy, programs and fundraising across the nonprofit, healthcare and higher education sectors.

Most recently, Copeland served as senior director of digital strategy at Mayo Clinic, where he led enterprise-level strategy and innovation initiatives and held a faculty appointment as assistant professor of healthcare administration at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Earlier in his career, Copeland directed a national philanthropy leadership center at Luther Seminary and led the development of service-oriented programs while on faculty at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He also co-founded a community-based nonprofit in Fargo, North Dakota. 

Copeland has secured and managed foundation grants, including multiyear awards from the Lilly Endowment, and has served on several nonprofit and foundation boards. A writer across academic and popular outlets, Copeland has edited two books and authored dozens of articles and book chapters, with work appearing in outlets ranging from MIT Sloan Management Review to the Journal of Medical Humanities. His scholarship addresses philanthropy, organizational leadership, digital innovation and healthcare ethics.

He holds a PhD in Rhetoric, Writing and Culture from North Dakota State University; an MDiv from Columbia Theological Seminary, and a BA from St. Olaf College.
