Local government and its various agencies are often largely misunderstood. While interest in local government as a career is increasing among many young students across different majors and local governments are closer to the people and offer job security.  Most people do not know what local governments do or the variety of services they provide. To help students better understand some of the services provided by local government, ICMA-OSU presents a special districts panel as an approachable form of local government.

Special districts are independent, limited-purpose local government entities that provide specific public services separate from an overarching local government.

  • Kelsey Ellingsen, Local Government Affairs Director at COTA
  • Fabio Spino, CFO at the Columbus Regional Airport Authority
  • Tim Moloney, Executive Director of the Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks
  • Michele Boni, Orange Township Administrator

These guests will disucss the wide range of responsibilities local governments can undertake. During the special district panel, these guests will answer questions about their roles, how the policies they make affect their special district, and how they chose their career paths, among other questions from attendees.
