Mia Gartner

WAIP Fellow

What inspires you to work in public service?
My desire to work in public service is rooted in a need to help as many people as possible. Guided by service as a core pillar, I feel called to effect change at the highest level in Washington, D.C.

What is your major, and do you have any minors or specializations?
Dual Degree: Public Management, Leadership, and Policy(BA), and Data Analytics(BS)

What coursework or academic experiences have most shaped your interests in policy, leadership or public service?
The coursework that shaped my interest in policy was my high school AP United States Government course. This class provided the foundation for my college career as a public affairs student.

What specific skills or experiences do you bring to your internship?
I have experience with qualitative research through my time spent with JusticeTech at Ohio State. I am also incredibly well-versed in customer service through my time with Chick-fil-A. Lastly, I am always willing to grow and learn as an individual. I hope to gain more skills and experiences through my internship this Summer. I will bring a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

What strengths do you most rely on when collaborating with others?
My biggest strength during collaboration is a willingness to accept criticism. In high school, I was a dancer, meaning I worked with a team of girls and had to take criticism and apply it to portray the choreographers' ideas. This experience has shaped me into the type of collaborator I am today.

What are your career goals and how do you hope this fellowship will support your professional journey?
I hope to attend Law School in the future. I am hoping that this fellowship will allow me to begin to understand the attorney-to-government and politics pipeline.

What is your favorite or most impactful project from a previous role?
