Glenn College Welcomes New Faculty with Expertise Across Public Affairs
Seo-Young Byun, a new assistant professor of public management, focuses her research on how organizations reflect values such as inclusion and justice by understanding workforce diversity. Byun studies leadership, workplace culture and identity, especially during times of social change. She has published in journals such as the Journal of Management Studies and Journal of Business Ethics. Byun earned her doctorate from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and previously taught at Ball State University. Her teaching combines research and practice to equip students for leadership roles in diverse organizations.
Mallory E. Compton joins the Glenn College as an assistant professor specializing in public administration and policy implementation. Her research examines how policies, institutions and resources affect public service quality, with particular focus on racial equity in social programs. Compton’s recent article in the Journal of Public Administration Research & Theory (JPART) on disparities in unemployment insurance earned the 2024 Best Journal Article Award from the Academy of Management. She earned her PhD from Texas A&M University and an MPA from the London School of Economics. Her teaching prepares students to navigate the complexities of governance and public management.
Ashley Orr joins the college as assistant professor of public policy. She uses economic tools to explore how public policy can reduce poverty and improve opportunities for workers and families. Her research focuses on labor markets and geographic inequality, often partnering with community organizations to evaluate programs aimed at increasing job training and mobility. Orr earned her doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University, where she was a National Science Foundation Fellow. She is a Rhodes Scholar and first-generation college graduate with degrees from the University of Oxford and Youngstown State University.
