The Ohio State University’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs is proud to announce that Professor Russell Hassan, Ambassador Milton A. and Roslyn Z. Wolf Chair in Public and International Affairs, has been elected to the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) as a member of its 2026 Class of Academy Fellows. This high honor for public administration scholars reflects a dedication to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations.

The National Academy of Public Administration is an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that works to improve government effectiveness by applying the research and knowledge of Academy Fellows.

As a leading scholar in public management, Hassan has conducted research exploring how leadership practices and work environment affect the performance and well-being of government employees. His work has been published in academic journals in public affairs and policing, including the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Public Administration Review, Public Management Review, Public Administration, Review of Public Personnel Administration, British Journal of Criminology, Policing & Society, Policing, and Journal of Interpersonal Violence, as well as in management journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics and Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies.

Hassan serves as a co-editor of the International Public Management Journal and sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory and Public Management Review.

This recognition is especially meaningful to me because it comes from my peers in the public administration field. NAPA brings together scholars and practitioners who share a commitment to strengthening government and public service. I look forward to engaging with other Fellows, exchanging ideas and contributing to conversations that can help bridge research and practice in state and local government.

About the Honor

Chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1967, the National Academy of Public Administration is an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan organization dedicated to helping government leaders build more effective, efficient and transparent organizations.

Election to the Academy is a significant achievement. New Fellows are selected through a rigorous process in which the Fellows Nominating Committee reviews candidates’ contributions to public administration and policy and then submits recommendations to the full Fellowship for a vote.

Induction of the new Fellows will occur during the Academy’s 2026 National Conference Nov. 8-10 at the National Academy of Sciences building in Washington, D.C.
