Noah Verhoff

WAIP Fellow

What inspires you to work in public service?
Throughout my time at The Ohio State, I've garnered a strong interest in policy and government affairs. This, along with my passion in making an impact as well as solving collective-action problems, drives my interest in creating a life and career through public service.

What is your major, and do you have any minors or specializations?
Political Science with a minor in History

What coursework or academic experiences have most shaped your interests in policy, leadership or public service?
The ability to engage with research and collaboration on a governmental basis has been a driving force in my interest in policy, leadership, and public service. The best political action anyone can take is educating themselves and others on the issues they find most important to them. With that in mind, I draw an experience working closely with voting statistics in order to accurately measure how often people vote against their own self-interests. Based on the results found stating that this phenomena happens much more often than you would expect, I've become driven to work efficiently in public service to address the political literacy crisis.

What specific skills or experiences do you bring to your internship?
I bring a strong history of collaboration into my internship. Drawn from roles within customer service, which applies directly to my role dealing with company operations, I've developed skills effective within the political world. The ability to not only communicate effectively with those around me, but to also take command and lead, will help me succeed within my internship as well as any role or opportunity I may find myself in within the future.

What strengths do you most rely on when collaborating with others?
Communication and understanding shine brightest when interacting with others. The ability to get along with anyone and showing you truly care about them and their interests will bring about incredible collaboration in nearly any instance whether it's in school, the workplace, or life in general.

What are your career goals and how do you hope this fellowship will support your professional journey?
I hope to foster a career in government relations, working closely with Capitol Hill while also committing to an organization or team to accomplish goals. Whether through government affairs, lobbying, or public policy, the ability to work with my passion in policy as well as my love with working on a team would be a career dream.

What is your favorite or most impactful project from a previous role?
While not specifically a project or within my area of interest career-wise, my student job at the Fawcett Center has been quite the experience to be had throughout college. At the Fawcett Center, I've developed connections and friendships that will last far beyond my time of employment there. I especially loved the opportunity to be promoted to a student-lead where I've been able to work effectively with all my co-workers while also developing life-long skills in leadership and organization.
