Sam Carruthers provides advising, professional development support and serves as the main contact for the MPA-DC program as well as the Federal Policy and Management Certificate. He also provides support for WAIP. He works closely with Ohio State's partners and stakeholders in the D.C. area to ensure smooth operations, high-quality programming and meaningful student engagement across the Glenn College’s growing Washington portfolio.
Carruthers earned his bachelor of arts at Juniata College in International Politics and his Master of Arts in International Security Studies from Charles University in Czechia. He has professional experience working in ESL, foreign policy think tanks and research organizations, and nonprofits that work to support international education and cultural diplomacy. Most recently, he served as senior program officer at Cultural Vistas for the Edmund S. Muskie Professional Fellowship Program, a U.S. Department of State program that places international graduate students from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus in summer internships and works to create positive change in the countries of the region. His professional interests are rooted in international relations, security issues facing the transatlantic alliance, cultural exchange and public diplomacy. Carruthers brings a thoughtful, student-centered approach and a deep appreciation for the role of experiential learning on students’ professional paths.
