What inspires you to work in public service?
My parents' careers in public service instilled the value of working toward the common good. My own inspiration comes from seeing how policy directly shapes outcomes. I have spoken with Foreign Service officers who have told me about the tangible impact they have in their everyday jobs, and I want to follow in their footsteps.
What is your major, and do you have any minors or specializations?
International Studies specializations in International Relations and Diplomacy, and World Business and Economy. I also am minoring in Public Policy and am on the Pre-Law Track.
What coursework or academic experiences have most shaped your interests in policy, leadership or public service?
My coursework in international political economics, European diplomacy, and policy analysis has fundamentally shaped my worldview. Courses examining the EU's fiscal frameworks and Germany's economic policy gave me concrete insight into how institutions and economic policy drive international relations.
What specific skills or experiences do you bring to your internship?
I bring strong research and analytical skills developed through internships in policy and international business, crafting policy briefs for congressional offices, developing financial models, and translating complex data into clear communications. My five years of German proficiency and beginner-level Czech enable me to engage with international sources directly. Most importantly, I combine rigorous analysis with practical problem-solving, demonstrated through policy projects and leadership in student government.
What strengths do you most rely on when collaborating with others?
I rely most heavily on flexibility and communication when collaborating. I recognize that effective teamwork requires adapting to different working styles, perspectives, and changing circumstances rather than insisting on a single approach. Equally important is clear communication. I listen actively to my teammates and address potential misunderstandings early. When challenges arise, I focus on understanding what others need and adjusting my approach accordingly. This combination allows me to build trust with collaborators and contribute to a more cohesive and productive team dynamic.
What are your career goals and how do you hope this fellowship will support your professional journey?
I would like to pursue law school following my undergraduate degree with a focus on international business and contract law. The WAIP program is ideal for these goals, as it will allow me to intern and study in Washington, D.C., a hub for international commerce and policy. This experience will provide practical exposure to the field and help me build professional networks in the legal field.
What is your favorite or most impactful project from a previous role?
My most impactful project was conducting policy research and meeting with congressional staffers to advocate for USAID and foreign aid restoration during my internship with the Alliance for American Leadership. This experience showed me how effective research combined with compelling communication can influence decision-makers on critical issues, reinforcing my commitment to bridging policy analysis and real-world impact.
