What inspires you to work in public service?
As a pre-law and political science student, I am particularly interested in the design of our governmental systems. Public service is a way to see how institutions and laws affect everyday life. When I go to law school and, eventually, am a lawyer, I think having a background in public service and an understanding of this cause and effect between institutions and citizens will be interesting and useful.
What is your major, and do you have any minors or specializations?
Major: Political Science, Minors: Music and History, Pre-professional Program: Pre-law
What coursework or academic experiences have most shaped your interests in policy, leadership or public service?
American Constitutional Law, Gun Politics, and Law and Politics
What specific skills or experiences do you bring to your internship?
I have worked at two law firms, so I have legal/statutory research skills, the ability to draft documents, experience with certain legal software, and general office experience. Additionally, from school, I have an understanding of Microsoft Office applications and am also learning about R Studio.
What strengths do you most rely on when collaborating with others?
As an extroverted person, collaboration is my strongsuit and where I typically feel most comfortable. I do well as both a leader in a group setting, happy to plan, organize, and coordinate, but I also do well in a more supportive/background role, doing what work needs to be done and making sure to report what I have completed.
What are your career goals and how do you hope this fellowship will support your professional journey?
As mentioned, I intend to go to law school and become an attorney. So, this fellowship will not only add to my resume but also provide me with real-world experiences and opportunities to learn, as well as build crucial connections and networks for after law school.
What is your favorite or most impactful project from a previous role?
The most impactful project from my previous role at a trusts and estates firm was my work on the first round of drafting estate planning documents. Though it was not the flashiest of roles I played there, when I had gained enough experience to start drafting documents for associate review, I was able to take on a more paralegal-adjacent position, which helped expedite my team's estate planning process.
