Carynne Jarrell

John Glenn Graduate Fellow

Carynne Jarrell is completing her graduate fellowship with the U.S. Department of State, first in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, and then in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. During her first year at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, Mrs. Jarrell completed a graduate assistantship with the Boys and Girls Club Ohio Alliance assisting with advocacy, fundraising, and grant management of the Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative. Prior to beginning her Master of Public Administration, Mrs. Jarrell served through AmeriCorps VISTA as a program coordinator for the Kansas Nonprofit Chamber of Service. Mrs. Jarrell also worked at an immigration law office and at a refugee resettlement agency. She received her undergraduate degree in International Studies and Spanish from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2015, with minors in Chemistry and Forensics.

Mrs. Jarrell chose the MPA-DC program to help her pivot from the nonprofit sector to federal government. She is interested in immigration policy and strengthening diplomacy globally. The diverse course load of a degree in public administration is perfect for transitioning her into a career in management

Mrs. Jarrell chose the John Glenn College for the combination of a top public affairs school's curriculum, incredibly knowledgeable and caring faculty, and a robust alumni network. She also loves the strong foundation students build with the core interdisciplinary classes because she knows good managers need to understand budgets and program evaluation, in addition to having a passion for policy.
