What's the process behind a presidential transition after an election?

This is a historic election year. A new president is now a certainty. One or both houses of Congress could change hands. And for the first time, the American people will choose between a same-party, new president ticket or a different-party ticket with a second-, nonconsecutive-term president. This novel choice has a disquieting context: the previous chaotic and violent transition, potential challenges to election results this year and considerable national anxiety and uncertainty.

This event outlines the process from Election Day through Inauguration Day, explaining resolutions to contested elections and focusing on the transition process. Speakers will include experts on election law, presidential transitions (including several who have served on presidential transition teams) and relevant national security issues including classified information, domestic armed forces use, foreign affairs and handoff of the “nuclear football.”

Lunch is provided, registration is required.
