Sophia Antoun is the diversity, equity and inclusion education specialist from Ohio State’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Her TEDx talk explores identity development through a new and innovative lens. As a first-generation Chinese-Arab American woman, Sophia has constantly heard the question, “Where are you from?” throughout her lifetime. “Where are you from” is one of the most common microaggressions that people in the Asian American Pacific Islander community contend with on a daily basis. In her talk, Antoun proposes to challenge this question with a new one: “When am I from?” — which explores Asian American Pacific Islander identity development through understanding family history, intergenerational trauma, and encouraging self-actualization and healing.

During this virtual event, we'll offer a screening of Sophia's TEDx talk followed by facilitated discussion and Q&A.
