General Education

Prepare for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century through the completion of Ohio State's General Education (GE) curriculum. Every undergraduate degree requires the completion of the GE curriculum. These streamlined requirements are designed to give students a breadth of understanding in a variety of topics, such as advanced writing, the arts, technology, math and data analysis, natural and social sciences, and more.

New General Education

In autumn 2022, the university rolled out a new GE curriculum, the first major overhaul of this requirement in 30 years. Despite major changes, the goals remain the same: to develop skills, competencies, and a breadth of knowledge that inspire citizenship, innovation and critical thinking.

Students who start at the university in autumn 2022 or later will follow the New General Education (“GEN”) requirements.
