Glenn College Colloquium with Dr. Penny A. Pasque

Higher Education and the Public Good: National Policy, Discourse, & The Power of Qualitative Research with Dr. Penny A. Pasque

Dr. Penny Pasque will discuss her research on what happens “behind closed doors” in national policy conversations about higher education for the public good. As director of QualLab, she will focus on the power of utilizing qualitative research toward social change. The findings and implications from this critical discourse analysis have been used in national policy conversations at the White House during the Obama Administration regarding DACA; to change higher education policy in Poland; with Graduate School Deans on equity and inclusion of racially minoritized graduate students; at Oxford University in connection to women in leadership meetings; and beyond.

Speaker Biography: Dr. Penny A. Pasque (she/her) is a professor in the Higher Education and Student Affairs program; Director of Qualitative Methods; and Director of the QualLab in the Office of Research, Innovation and Collaboration (ORIC) in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. In addition, she serves as editor of the Review of Higher Education, considered one of the leading journals in the field. Her research addresses complexities in qualitative inquiry, inequities in higher education, and the relationships between higher education and society.
