Alumni Spotlight: Tracey Tackett

As assistant mayor, my job is to listen to residents, make thoughtful decisions and help move our city forward. Every vote we take impacts people’s daily lives — from public safety and infrastructure to economic growth and quality of life. Local government matters because it’s where people experience government firsthand, and I’m committed to leading with integrity, transparency and a focus on putting our community first. 

My time at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University strengthened my problem-solving skills and reinforced my belief that good leadership starts with listening, working together and finding practical solutions that put people first. 

I would tell myself that leadership isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about having the courage to listen, learn and serve. Stay true to your values, even when it’s difficult, because integrity will outlast any title or election. Most importantly, never lose sight of the people behind every policy decision. They’re the reason the work matters.
