Frequently Asked Questions:

Students are only permitted to walk in the semester in which they graduate unless there are extenuating circumstances preventing participation in that ceremony (such as a documented job or military commitment that conflicts with the commencement date). In which case, students can submit a petition to walk in the following semester.

You will receive your diploma at Commencement! Graduates are expected to participate in the Commencement ceremony since diplomas are distributed during this special event. If you do not plan to attend, we ask that you submit a Commencement Excuse Form to ensure proper receipt of your diploma.

You will receive an email from a Glenn College advisor within two weeks with any questions, or with approval for graduation. Once you have been approved, you should not change your courses without first consulting with an advisor.

In addition to your name, your diploma will list your conferred degree: “Bachelor of Arts” or “Bachelor of Science” and may include Latin Honors, as well as graduating from the Glenn Honors Program and/or with research distinction.

Graduating with Honors or Research Distinction

Honors Cords

Students graduating with Latin Honors or from the Glenn Honors Program are eligible to wear honors cords at Commencement. All eligible students will be emailed a month prior to graduation with details for collecting their cords.

Glenn Honors

Upon successful completion of a Glenn Honors contract (curriculum track), students in the Glenn Honors program will be eligible to graduate with Honors in Public Affairs. This designation will be included on the student’s diploma and in the Commencement program.

Latin Honors

Students graduating at or above a 3.5 cumulative GPA, with 60 OSU graded credit hours will be eligible to graduate with Latin Honors. The Latin honor designation requires a minimum 3.5 GPA for Cum Laude, a minimum 3.7 GPA for Magna Cum Laude, and 3.9 GPA for Summa Cum Laude.

Latin Honors are based on a student’s penultimate (second-to-last) semester. If a student improves their standing or gains Latin Honors in their final semester, the diploma will be re-printed and permanent records will reflect this. The Commencement program is printed before the final grades are in and will only reflect any Latin Honors determined in the previous semester.

Research Distinction

Graduating with Research Distinction in Public Affairs recognizes any student who has successfully completed and defended a thesis in Public Affairs. Non-Honors students will have “with Research Distinction in Public Affairs” added to their diploma and in the Commencement program.
