ICMA-OSU Student Chapter Hosts Disaster Management Roundtable at OCMA 2026

The ICMA-OSU Student Chapter had the incredible opportunity to host a disaster management breakout session at the 2026 Ohio City/County Management Association (OCMA) Conference. Titled “Drowning in Demands: Surviving Stakeholder Chaos in a Flash Flood Crisis”, this session allowed students and experienced city management professionals to work together and provide relief for a flood disaster.

This engaging session was presented by Former President Taylor Lefkowitz, Former Vice President Wade Brown, and President Sydney Brower, with additional support from all attending club members. This presentation was made possible through the invaluable support of club advisor Judith Zimomra and OCMA, who provided our student chapter with the valuable opportunity to lead a conference session.

Beyond the session, conference attendees gained valuable insights from various conference discussions and networking opportunities. The experience was both inspiring and educational, reinforcing the importance of ethical leadership in public service.

Special Districts Panel

In April, we had the incredible opportunity to host Kelsey Ellingson, Director of Local Government Affairs COTA, Fabio Spino, CFO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, and Tim Moloney, Executive Director of Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks. These three speakers, moderated by Michele Boni, led an insightful discussion about their roles, how policy affects their special district, and their career paths.

They shared their firsthand experiences of the differences in policymaking for special districts, and attendees were able to gain valuable knowledge of real-world policy application, even in the face of difficult policy changes.

ICMA events and meetings will continue to feature guest speakers from local government, providing unique learning opportunities and meaningful discussions on public service leadership.

In April we hosted a site visit to the City of Westerville. Members toured Westerville’s newly constructed City Hall, water and sewage treatment plant, data center, and historic district. Presentations included an overview of their Recreation & Parks, Electric Division, and a one-on-one chat with Westerville’s City Manager Monica Dupee.

ICMA will continue to host site visits, offering an in-depth look at local government in action.
