ICMA Student Chapter

The International City/County Managers Association Student Chapter at The Ohio State University is an official chapter of ICMA. We will be hosting a variety of events this year including site visits to local municipalities, guest speakers in local government, and networking events.

This engaging session was presented by Former President Taylor Lefkowitz, Former Vice President Wade Brown, and President Sydney Brower, with additional support from all attending club members. This presentation was made possible through the invaluable support of club advisor Judith Zimomra and OCMA, who provided our student chapter with the valuable opportunity to lead a conference session.

Beyond the session, conference attendees gained valuable insights from various conference discussions and networking opportunities. The experience was both inspiring and educational, reinforcing the importance of ethical leadership in public service.

In September, we had the incredible opportunity to host Ryan Jenkins, Treasurer of Olentangy School Districts, Dr. Jim Landers, Professional Practice Associate Professor at John Glenn College of Public Affairs and Kyle Brooks, Executive Director of the Ohio Township Association. These three speakers, moderated by Sydney Brower, led an insightful discussion about their roles, how property taxes fund their work and the proposed property tax elimination bill.

They shared their expertise on what property taxes fund and why they matter in their professional fields. Attendees were able to gain valuable knowledge of real-world policy application as property tax reform continues to be a source of debate amongst policy professionals.

ICMA events and meetings will continue to feature guest speakers from local government, providing unique learning opportunities and meaningful discussions on public service leadership.

In October we hosted a site visit to the City of Delaware, Ohio. Members toured Delaware's airport, received an insider's look into the engineering department's plans for development, learned the inner workings of Delaware's water treatment division, and watched a presentation from the city's economic development team before stopping in the downtown business district for lunch.

ICMA will continue to host site visits, offering an in-depth look at local government in action.
