Advocacy and Nonprofits

Public affairs is a direct pathway to advocating for the issues that matter most to you.  

There are programs in government agencies and nonprofit organizations that work to make our communities, state and country a better place. An education in public affairs provides the necessary skills in public and nonprofit management, policy analysis, civic engagement and communication to make a measurable impact.

Career path:

  • Title after graduation: Program Coordinator 

  • Title after 5 years: Program Manager or Director 

Example course:

  • Public Affairs 5120: Social Change Advocacy: Organization, Mobilization and Activism 
    • Learn how movements – engaged by nonprofits and individuals – have changed society and discover a range of advocacy strategies that can impact policy. Choose your cause, dive deep and become an impactful advocate for your issue.
